Hypnosis Information: Introduction to Hypnosis
Hypnosis has been studied for more than 200 years and it all seems to have started with Franz Anton Mesmer, who is now considered to be the Father of Hypnotism. Dr. Mesmer used suggestion to heal his clients, although he didn't know that was what he was doing at the time. He thought that he was balancing, what he imagined to be, a kind of magnetic field around his patient's body. After an investigative scientific committee refuted his theory of "Animal Magnetism" what was left to study was "suggestion" because it was that phenomenon that was believed to be the cause of the healings that Mesmer managed to cause.
Now we know that everyone goes in and out of hypnosis as a natural state of mind. Hypnosis is simply a heightened state of mind in which the subconscious mind can uncritically accept the suggestions of the hypnotist or hypnotherapist that the client likes or wants.
